Disputes among rappers have been a public issue thanks to the press and violent resolutions for this problems were often. But no case has travel the world and impact the fans and media as much as the east coast vs west coast record labels rivalry.

The 'war' started in the 1990's between fans and artists from both the west coast hip hop and east coast hip hop. In 1993 Sean Diddy Combs funded Bad Boy Records representing west coast artists. After Notorious Big debuted for Bad boys records with his album Ready to die and achieved multi-platinum things got complicated. The success that all of the sudden Notorious BIG was having with Bad boys records upset west coast hip hop artist Tupac and his label Death Row records who had led the gangsta and hip hop music scene for over two years, until that point. A couple of days after the song Hit' Em Up dedicated to upset BIG hit radio stations and TV channels, Tupac ( Death row records) was shot in Vegas and although Bad boys records publicly issue a letter of condolence, a couple of days later Notorious BIG was killed. Both of the murder cases where left unsolved, but the dead of the the two gangsta leaders put an end to the a bloody episode of the gangsta wars.
